I bought a bike at the TREK Store in KC and their Tune-Ups are $70, nice thing is.... I get as many as one a month for free for 36 months, not to mention 10% of the cost of my bike back to buy accessories in the store.

The last tune up I had was a complete tear down and rebuild (trued wheels, repacked hubs, etc). It cost me $25.

My LBS gives free tune-ups for life on anything you buy there, whether it be a complete bike or, in my case, just random parts. I bought my Rolfs there and they re-laced them with lighter spokes a few years later. The spokes cost me, but the re-build was totally free.

Learn to do most of it yourself, if you can. You will be happier in the long run.

^^ Agreed.

It actually takes less time in most cases to fix it at home than to drive back and forth to the shop.

labor free, parts at a discount, if you bought at least MOST of your stuff there.

Last time I took bikes in, it was $40 for labor & cables for a bike NOT purchased there, free for the bike from there.

Time is the issue with me (though the savings are of some value). At the hight of the season, even if you are friendly with your mechanic, the wait can be a while on what is otherwise an easy fix. One overhaul will buy a decent set of tools, and between the forums, Park Tools and Sheldon Brown there is a lot of know how to tap into. Loosing your bike for a glorious weekend over a derailleur adjustment sucks.

Plus it is kind of fun.

At my LBS it's free (for ever) if you bought the bike from them and it's $35 for all other bikes.

One free tune up with bike purchase. After that, and any other bike is $70 for a basic tune.

Turn on the CD player and break out the wrenches. Cost most times $12 for cables, $15 for a chain. ??? for lubes & polishes.

I ride Kona, and the dealer where I get my bike will give you 2 free tune ups the first year, then after that, depending on what you want down, it can cost $35 up to $115.

Nope. But they do fight tooth and nail to get the parts covered under warranty if they can. I had a tire tread blow out on my Allez and they replaced my tire for free; tire had 400+ miles on it.

My LBS is a small mom & pop (thats it) bike shop.
