I was just giving it as a point of reference... no way will you be able to fit mtb tires on a road bike.
But to answer your question, I assume you could do it without sealant. He did have some issues with some tires blowing off the rim, so be careful.

well its a 27 inch road bike with 700c wheels, the tire clearance is HUGE, and i measured exactly and 45mm is playing it safe, but thanks for making me type a lot. im really asking the wrong person, a straight answer from someone who actually knew the answer would have been preferable.....

The chart and info on that page should help you out.

What road bike do you have? I have a 700x28 road tire on the back of my road bike and there is maybe 5mm clearance under the brake caliper. There is no way a 45 would go in there.

I'm running a wire-bead 700x38c tire on Open Pro rims, and they are blowing off past 45 psi. YMMV

I'm curious what frame you're using. I won't argue with ya, I'm just curious.
I have a Cross Check which is technically not a "road bike" with 700x48 (29x2, 28x2, 622-50, whatever) and it is tight.
Also, before you get and mount the tires, be sure the rest of the bike's geometry can handle it. Specificially TOE OVERLAP with the front wheel. My surly is designed for fatties, and I still have toe overlap trouble over 38mm.
You might want to try the commuter forum with this post also. A lot of guys there have rigs set up like this. You may find someone there has the exact bike and can give you better advice.

From Sheldon's site linked above:
Which has been covered in this thread but I quess you just didn't want to acknowledge that.
A table summarizing which tires fit which rims is odd because not all tires of a given size are created equally...let me rephrase that...no tire of a given size is created equally.
If you use a very wide tire on a narrow rim, you risk sidewall or rim failure. This combination causes very sloppy handling at low speeds. Unfortunately, current mountain-bike fashion pushes the edge of this. In the interest of weight saving, most current mountain bikes have excessively narrow rims. Such narrow rims work very poorly with wide tires, unless the tires are overinflated...but that defeats the purpose of wide tires, and puts undue stress on the rim sidewalls.

fatigoworld, what Pete's been trying to tell you, correctly, is that the 45mm tires will likely be wider than 45mm when mounted on your rims. The ballooning of a tire, on too narrow a rim, IS going to present problems, IMO. Fit, as well as handling issues may present themselves. The tires will be running much more on the center than the design intended.

i know my posts come off as angry, and thats because i am. i ask a very simple question and then get bombarded by people telling me i dont have enough tire clearancewhich has nothing to do with my question. and neither does saying "its possible". and then on top of it you, specifically you, are insulting, condesending and at your best, not very well informed.
post #2 is speculation, meaning it can be done....but safely or reccomended? i have friends that do a lot of things i wouldnt do. and post #6 was by me. youre just all over the place. maybe youre thought process is actually correct in your head but it just comes out in a skewed manner. i have nothing left to say to you, except......grow up....
