Any other old MTBer's

As I read the posts on this board I get the feeling most of you are about half my age. I am 50 years old but when I am on the singletrack age doesn't make any difference. When ever I meet other bikers we have an instant bond. I haven't moved on to the new dual suspension bikes. Still riding my '98 Specialized S Works hard tail. Any others out there over 50.

I'm NOT, but one of my regular riding partners is. As a matter of fact, he's 63. He's my father-in-law and a man I respect and admire and also consider a friend. He's always been healthy and one of the finest skiers I've seen. When his daughter (my wife) and I got into mountain biking including my bro-in-law, he naturally wanted to come along. He now rides a Cannondale Raven with Full XTR, and Race Face Next cranks, Spinergy wheels and some pretty chi-chi components (thanks to me!). Anyways, he's pretty aggressive and will hang with us through it all. Everytime we do ride together I try to take the time to think about how cool it is to be riding with my father-in-law.

50 is not old to me or most bikers that i know.running maybe cuz of the pounding you take on the joints.at 50 i bet you can still probably kick the snot out of the majority of trail riders with the same experience including me.ive been riding for 10 years or so on the trails and find that experience makes up for youth very often.

YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE OVER THE HILL WHEN YOUR MIND MAKES A PROMISE THAT YOUR BODY CANT FILL-OLD FOLKS BOOGIE ,BY LITTLE FEAT

When I turned 25 I felt a little older. Sure loved the drop in car insurance :)

My fatherinlaw is 56.He got me into riding road to start with. Then i discovered mtb and now he rides also. He's not the greatest in the tech sections but more than makes up for it on the hills and non tech areas. Most of the time it's him,my wife and i riding mtb but occasionally my motherinlaw,my wifes 2 sisters and brotherinlaw will ride together. All because an OLD man got us into riding.

Hed Redfox, that's pretty cool, the whole extended family.

When we ride, it' my wife and I, my father-in-law, my brother-in-law, a few friends. My mother-in-law babysits my 3 year old son, but we bring her bike and my wife's old HT with the baby seat and do some of the easier trails.

I bought a bike for my son for Christmas. He's a maniac on the tricycle and should be ready for a two wheeler by then.

Last season I was training with an old dude, he was 55 and I was 37 and in great biking shape. I met him at the track and after he smoked me for the entire three weeks before the big race, I never called him the "old dude" again.

This owner of a LBS I know is between 55-60. He is in such great shape. He started biking about 10 years ago, and opened a bike shop about 3 years ago with his son who is about 30. He races and kicks "young" peoples' butts.

I'm 34. Most of the guys I run into on the trails are in their 30's. Seems the younger folks are too busy jumping off stuff. :D

Well, I was feeling pretty old at 35, but after reading this thread, I feel like a young spring chicken!!! (with a bad back, bad knee, and bad shoulders!). So really, I feel like a broken chicken. In fact, I need a chicken transplant. Ouch, now I have carpal tunnal from typing too much....

I'm 50 and you young pups who are still in nappies with spots on your face can go ride a bike. Just stay out of my way!

I'm actually less than half your age...when I first took my bike to the trail, I was psyched and scoffed at all the "old guys" (me and my friend were the only guys under 30 there...it really does seem like all the other bikers our age only do freeride and downhill).

That was the day my friend and I saw our asses smoked on a freakin' steep and huge climb (30-40 degrees, several hundred yards) three times by three different older guys riding 5-10 year old hardtails. Actually, we couldn't even complete that climb.

UNCLECHET 05-12-04 07:49 PM

Well, I'm 48. I didn't start riding until I was 32. Now I've got a bunch of bikes, been a bunch of places I probably wouldn't have been otherwise and still love the burn. I also don't complain about my age if I get beat but the kids sure cry when I beat them! Especially if I'm on my ridgid singlespeed. Keep on crankin!
