Fenders and rack on a Trek 4500 ??

Hi all,

I am new to MTB's but not to biking. I'm considering purchasing a Trek 4500 for a multi purpose bike.

I am wondering if anyone knows for certain whether the Trek 4500 will accommodate fenders and racks. I plan on having this bike do multiple duties. Some very light off road, lots of commuting, and bike camping/touring on the weekends - hence the need to outfit with racks & fenders.

no offense - but PLEASE spare me any speculation. I am sure there are riders out there who have tried and either succeeded or failed at this. Those are the people I'd like to hear from.

Please excuse my ignorance on the subject of MTB's. This will be my first bike of this type.

Thanks

You may want to post in the commuting or touring forum about this. Anyway, if you can look at the frame it should have threaded mounts near or on the dropouts and near the brake arch on the seatstays if it can take racks.

I know for certain that this bike will accept racks and fenders. Your only issue might be a rack with disc brakes. This can be worked around as well.

I have fairly recently helped a friend install full fenders and a rack on a similar frame. We used an Axiom Disc Rack, this was easy to install as it clamps to the frame and there are eyelets for the front braces.
For fenders we used Planet Bike Freddy Fenders and a bunch of hockey tape and zip ties. So it can be done but it required some creativity, particularily with the suspension fork.
There are many fenders made specifically for mountain bikes that clip to the seat post for the rear and attach to the fork with an expansion plug that goes into the fork tube but they do not extend over enough of the tire to make them particularily useful for wet weather commuting. There are also racks that simply clamp to the seat post but their weight limit is pretty low.
