Flat handlebar, rear derailer, and 9-speed gripshifter recommendations?

Any recommendations for triple-crankset, 9-speed grip shifter? I was wanting to replace the 7-speed grip shifter on my 1995 Trek 730, to accommodate an upgrade to a 9-speed cassette.

Will a special rear derailer be required with the recommended 9-speed grip shifter, for an Ultegra 12-27 cassette? If so, then recommendations for a specific rear derailer?

And is there a recommendation for a flat handlebar, to put the grip shifters on?

First, make sure your rear spacing is 135mm. The stock derailleur should accommodate that setup though.

Not sure about rear spacing issue, mcoine. Is this a matter of the wheel-hub? I ask, because I should have specified that I'm replacing the Trek's stock 700C (7-speed) wheels ... with 700C (9-speed) Synergy Velocity. Does this address the issue of rear spacing, as far as converting 7- speed cassette & grip-shifter with 9-speed cassette & grip-shifter?

Chances are you have a mountain bike, it's 135mm spacing. If that's the case, then you need to replace your 7 cog freehub with an 8/9 cog freehub. You'll need a set of cone wrenches and a 10mm allen wrench.

While you're at it you may want to replace all the bearings. For this just take a couple sample bearings to your LBS. They should have the ones you need.

I recommend XO gripshifters. I've been using them for about a year and they are really precise and the price is reasonable too.
When all else fails, read the directions.

I had my first ride with the grip shifters yesterday; I love them! I will not be going back to triggers any time soon.
