I just bought a trek 7000 zx. I believe it is a year 2000 model. Any way I was just wondering if anyone knew what the bolt holes in this picture are used for? I think it is some sort of adapter for disc brakes, but i really have no idea.

where would I find the correct bracket? the only one I can find is for the 01-05 year treks and GFs

If you want to fabricate your own from some 6061 angle, I have a cardboard pattern around that I could scan and post or mail to you. They are easy to make. (I even have a fully-completed one in mirror-image of what it's supposed to be that I fabricated in a somewhat dyslexic moment )

There is a Hayes-made adapter for 22mm to 51mm IS. I found one at The Fix in Boulder, CO for $30:

so, does this adapter make the caliper sits horizontally instead of the standered angle you see on most bikes? I don't have any experience with disc brakes, but would like to convert to them as to not have to worry so much about how true my wheel is. thanks for the quick replies and all the help. and that pattern would be great if you could please post it. thanks

It is an 'L' shape that makes it sit just like any other disc brake caliper. Here are photos from A2Z's site:







I ammended the link to take you straight to the "other adapters" page on the A2Z site. You can see why it is so easy to fashion one from aluminum angle.

Great research and photos -- provides a visual answer to the OP's question. With this mount adapter, it appears the brake caliper mounts above the chainstay at the 10 o'clock position on the rotor. As mentioned previously, the 2001-2005 Treks and Gary Fisher models require a different adapter (Trek part number 210648) that mounts above the left seat stay instead. The brake caliper is then at the 1 o'clock position on the rotor. I just finished a disc brake conversion on my 2002 Trek 4500.
