Hey, since the MTB guys get their own thread, those of us who don't have local trails readily accesible must take to the streets. Sometimes it's not pretty, but it is a lot of fun. Is there any possibility of getting a sub-thread within the mtb thread for us urban riders? And another thing, I'm currently building a ramp jump from some spare wood left over from the construction of my house, which would be better, a long less steep ramp or a short steep incline, I guess which has more fear factor associated with it?

Long ramps with less of a steep angle are better for me. The steep ones tend to pop me up at wierd angles and if I don't flick the bike right in the air sometimes I can endo or land funny. I'd say build a longer ramp.


And I second the motion for an urban forum.

If you've got some jumping experience, build a jump that goes to vert - bulid a fixed landing out of dirt. Move the jump to or fro, depending on what your doing. You'll build much more skill boosting off these - plus in the long run they are quite a bit safer - you scrub a bunch when you go up not out. Jumps like these are better done with platforms though, for obvious reasons.

I agree that a sub-thread for Urban Mountainbiking would be great! Something on the verge of urban freeriding but with a more active pace...

How about an Agressive XC Urban MTB sub-thread! hahaha.

I think instead of getting that specific, we just need a "freeride mountain biking" forum, because that will cover urban and north shore "stunt riding" and tricks etc.

Depends on your bike. The vert jumps SUCK with big hit FS bikes. I hit one the other day on my Scream, sum***** got allll wacky in the air.

nah, cause mountain biking in general is considered XC. When someone hears the words mountain bike, one of the first things that comes to mind is trail. Well, since so many trails are being closed, or restricted, it's time to come out of the gutters and take to the streets. Terrorize the tourists(not really) Make trouble for the local Donut Consortium(Bike cops are not as fast as you think) and just generally have fun throwing yourself off of stuff. No mountain necessary, we got the urban jungle.

The bike cops around here are slow as hell. But I'm not going to jail to avoid being harassed/ticketed.

i think it is a great idea for the freestyle mountain bike thing as that is what i like doing most

and as for the ramp i find that long not steep inclined ramps are very boring and you need something with a good steep kick at the top to do anything good

but it all depends on how good you arw with ramping, if you dont mind soaring 20 ft into the air then go for a very steep incline but if you are just starting jumping then try a less steep incline with a shalower kick

About building a ramp the one in my back yard is I think around 5 feet long and its flat. I usually have the lip around 3 or so feet in the air and it can shoot me about 25 feet.

the only reason they have bike cops is so that they can chase kids on foot after they bust teenage parties. Personally, I could outrun any cop on foot (even if they could run as fast, they got 20 lbs of gear on), so if I was to be running from these cops, I would just take to the woods, or between houses, and I would be home free.

The bike cops would change this...I can do 10mph for about 3 miles on foot, and any fat, out of shape, bike cop could easily do this on a bike.

I know of a couple of cops that would give you a run for your money - and only pedaling with their left foot - because their right foot would be much too powerful.....

I'm not really sure how good of shape our local bike cops are, but I'm fairly sure I could outrun them by hitting various technical obstacles since I know the terrain way better than they do. I've seen them out training and I'm fairly should I'm in better physical shape. But as they say.. you can't outrun Motorola.

Some cops have passions like you or I. I don't like to brag about what I can ride, but I know of a local cop who can drop 8" on Police issued HT and pull a one hander mid flight to check his watch. He didn't learn that from any bike cop school, but he does have the skill. I'm sure he's not the only one like that. I think it's always good to under estimate than over - keeps you from embarresment, or being caught.
