Help identify my bike!

I bought this a while ago for $30, and never knew what brand bike it was.

The front hub says SPECIALIZED on it.

Shimano XTR brake levers/shifters. Deore XT everywhere else.

There are no markings on it except for that red marking on the front.

The fork was a tan brown (like the color around the rockshox label) before painted.

What brand bike is this?
Is this a decent bike?
Is it worth putting money into?

Let me know if you need more pics or info.

Thanks!

It sounds hot to me. $30 for those specs is a bit cheap.

I think it probably is to. But the guy I got it from says it wasn't.
Is there a way I can find out if it's stolen?

Ya, for $30.00 its stolen.

But its a good bike, hell I would use it for a urban bike till the frame snapped.

It's an older Cannondale. The older cannondale logo had three angular bars that looked like it formed a roof of a house. (well that's how I look at it) Looking at the front shot of the headtube.

Yeah.

It's definitely a Cannondale.

I think $50 is a reasonable price for it

so $30 is not that far off. The parts on that bike looks well used and it's from the early 90s. The frame is made of aluminum so that's a good chance that it's going bust on ya eventually. Still, a good buy.

Thanks

I can almost make out the silhouette of the lettering that was on the top bar.
I think it ends with FLITE with three or four more letters in front of it (all one word).

___FLITE?

Yeah, all the parts are on thier last leg, thats why I wanted to upgrade.

How often do frames break? I once rode a cheap Dept. store bike hard on these Az
trails (everyday for a wholesummer once) and havn't had a frame break on me and I'm about 270 lbs. Will I be okay if I keep it on the road?

That would be just my luck to snap the frame while riding and also break my face.

The fork is an old Mag21, a decent fork in it's day, but pretty much old technology. As long as it still works though, no reason to trash it.

I do NOT think it's a Cannondale.

Can you take some more pictures of the frame? Specifically the dropouts (where the rear wheel connects, the headtube (just below the handlebars) and the seat tube junction.

Also, if you flip the bike over, there should be a serial number stamped into the bottom bracket. If it's been filed off that's a pretty good indication it's stolen.

Judging from the components on it, I'd say it's older than a '95. Could be as early as an '88 or '89. Hard to tell without better pics.

No, it's not a Cannondale. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'm pretty certain it is not a Cannondale. I could be wrong but I do not think the welds looked like that even on old Cannondales.

Agree there- Front forks and Shimano "M" brakes point to that. Spec has been upgraded from original, but the Fat Tubes and welding do look vaguely Cannondale, but I have my Doubts. Whatever it is, looks a ridable bike, but get the wheels checked out for true and spoke tension, and you should have a respectable ride.

Yeah i say take it in for a complete tune up, and you should be all good. Who cares what it is, it was $30!

The tuneup will cost more than the bike did, but oh well

A magnet doesn't stick to it.

The serial number is still there, 6 digits (last 3 digits omitted). 3C7XXX <--- maybe you can tell something from that

Well, thanks for everyones help. I'll get more pictures up soon.

It looks to be a parts bike built from several others.

From the photos that aren't too dark or blurry, I can ID:

1993 Mag 21 forks
1992-1993 XTR shift brake levers (no OGD)
1994-1995 XT canti brakes
Specialized tires

An unusual mix of parts.

Cannondales are known for their sanded smooth welds, it's safe to say this frame is not a Cannondale.

I'm stumped because there were plenty of companies churning out "generic" aluminum frame MTB's in the early to mid 90's. I'm not saying that in a bad way at all. It's just that the frame could be almost any brand due to the lack of identifying features. It's not a Cannondale or a GT (obviously). The "Flite" information does not help me much. KHS uses Flite for their road line so that rules KHS out.

Whatever it is, it looks pretty cool and for $30 you seem to had made a great deal. Call it whatever you like and enjoy the ride.

Definitely NOT a Cannondale!! They never made welds like that, and the dropouts are all wrong. Maybe a Klein or specialized or generic bike.
