Help needed

Hi everyone, I am a newbie and desperately need assistance in knowing three things please.
1) how to stay ahead during a race
2) what to do in the final stretch of a cycle race
3) how to tune the bodyup for cycling. If anyone can help me I would be so grateful.
and....

what's the specific cycle workout that is the best for a racing cyclist?
need this info as soon as possible please. Thanks in advance.

Pick up Joe Friel's book Mountain Bikers Training Bible. It is a great book to help you with training.

As for how to stay ahead during a mountain bike race, I've only managed to do it once since moving up to the sport class. It took me over three years to win a sport race. I managed to get plenty of seconds and thirds along the way though. All I can say is be prepared to suffer and stay on the verge of puking for two hours.

As for the training thing, what helped me more than anything was countless hours of training on the road bike. You get much more consistent training on the road than you can get in the woods.

What monogodo said.

If you are indeed serious about training, this is an excellent time to join a gym that has a fleet of stationary trainers and offers spinning classes (assuming you are in an area that has winter right now?) This will definitely give you a leg up on some of your competition come Spring.

The best (in my somewhat limited experience) spinning classes will have workouts utilizing heart rate monitors (HRMs) - - it gives you quantifiable feedback as the weeks progress so that you know how/how much you are improving.
