Favorite gear?

just wondering what everyones favorite gear is.

probable556 01-04-08 03:26 PM

Do you mean 32/18? 32/20? 22/17? 22/20?

junkyard 01-04-08 03:33 PM

The one that gets me up the hill.

dminor 01-04-08 03:36 PM

Second; I like second gear. I'm also partial to overdrive, especially of the BT variety.

Whatever gear that takes care of business! ;-)

wethepeople 01-04-08 03:51 PM

Second gear is where all the magic happens.

paul emick 01-04-08 03:59 PM

Gear ratios divisible by 3, but only because I have a strange Feng Shui compulsion.

You're so inclusive, LowCel - - does this mean you welcome cross-chainers with open arms?

I read an article some where (I think it was Bicycling Magazine) where a Shimano guy was saying how cross-chaining isn't an issue any more with newer chains unless, of course, you got the chain rub going on.

ken cummings 01-04-08 06:09 PM

44/15 on the flats.

DevilsGT2 01-04-08 06:31 PM

All of them.

mcoine 01-04-08 06:32 PM

2nd is great on the motorcycle.. in the car though, I might go with 3rd.

During everyday riding, not so much. During a race absolutely, I'll use any gear I can get into.

I don't think I've ever cruised on my MTB. I'm either in the lowest gear it takes to get up a hill, or the gear that gets me going along a trail the fastest.

Cheeto 01-04-08 10:07 PM

Dannihilator 01-04-08 10:28 PM

36/16

Tweek 01-04-08 10:43 PM

62/4 which engages light speed.

Cheeto 01-04-08 10:45 PM

Can you explain to a newbie what all the 62/4 and 36/16 thing is? lol

Dannihilator 01-04-08 10:46 PM

36 tooth chain ring up front and a 16 tooth cog in the back.

Cheeto 01-04-08 10:47 PM

Oh ok, lol

rankin116 01-05-08 07:40 AM

Ludicrous Speed

ZeCanon 01-05-08 07:49 AM

What everyone is mocking you for, Cheeto, is that on every bike "2" and "5" are going to be different actual gears. So we can't compare. Go count how many teeth are on your chainrings and on each cog of your cassette, and get back to us.
