Seat Post Help

My specialized takes a 31.9 seatpost. Would a 31.6 fit with the clamp tightened enough?

You will eventually destroy your frame if you do this. The post might seem tight enough but it will be free to rock back and forth in the seat tube and it will eventually cause the frame to crack.

You can usually buy a shim, but I'd opt for the correct sized post for the reasons stated above.

Are you sure your bike takes a "31.9"? I bet you have that wrong...

I was at my LBS when when of the local junkies brought in his "bike". Since it was clearly stolen and the frame was entirely too small, the guy needed a longer seatpost. He went to Home Depot (or some similar home repair place) and bought (read: stole) some pipe. Despite the post being too large for the frame, he muscled it in somehow so the frame was all fanning out around it. Best part is he rides in with like 2 ft. of "seatpost" poking out of this tiny frame, but no seat on it. It looked brutal.
