Next Gen Technology

Hi all. I was browsing the web when I found this and thought it would be a good topic for a post since it is pretty new and exciting I'd say. This frame/shock was build by a british man, Millyard. It uses a modified nexus for the drivetrain and a patented 'intelligent' nitrogen rear suspension with superior performance and reliability that will react to any track conditions and automatically provide the optimum compression and rebound damping for every bump. Anyhow this stuff is completely over my head but I thought some of you guys here would be interested in it.

What are your thoughts on this? I think this is awesome and is gonna push companies to research more technologies (at least I hope it does) especially since the Honda DH bike is no more. One thing I'd like to see come from this prehaps is a better and more DH friendly "automatic transmission" like the one on the Trek Lime. That would really be something else.

PS. Sorry if this is old or has been posted before. I haven't seen it mentioned here before so I hope it's new news.

It's not all that it's cracked up to be and nitrogen based shocks have been around for awhile now, so it isn't exactly next generation technology.

Looks like nothing more than a Honda RN01 rip off. And before anyone asks... Honda makes bikes?? Yes they do and it's a very good one, it's won multiple championships in downhill racing.

It is actually almost a year old - - I think those were shot at last year's Sea Otter. You gotta pay more attention, DT .

It's very exciting stuff I think. The kid's dad (who built that bike), if I recall right, is an aerospace engineer and that was basically a one-off he did for his son. Good things are coming down the pike for DH; I predict the eventual death of the derailleur at least for that discipline.

PM me sometime, DT and I'll find you the link where that was unveiled and the discussion that went on with the actual dad who designed it (I shouldn't here because it was another forum).

i doubt its anything like the rn01. I understood Honda's transmission was designed from the ground-up whereas the millyard is an "adaptation" over an existing gearbox hub - much like the early nicolai and g-boxx prototypes.

I saw on another page where the guy rigged up two brakes in the front. Anyone know how that turned out?

Interesting enough that was done by the same guy I blieve. But in the end nobody really needs 2 front rotors even though from what I've heard his son (the one riding it) didn't have to change out his brake pads once that season racing downhill

^^It has that strut-construction charm of a Sintesi Bazooka for sure. Dang! Soon as I get a DC welder, I'm springing for a TIG kit for it!

They psycological barrier is huge when the price is that high for something that looks like it's made of toothpicks.
