Great deal on an awesome set of shorts. If you're a small, order em up!

Do a search on ebay, there is a guy that sells brand new fox shorts with padded crotch for $9 all day long, bought several pair from him.

By "cool" do you mean fashionable or effective at heat transfer?

I find that the shorts I like for my road bike make the best MTB shorts. It's tough to beat the comfort, and less baggy means less getting caught on things. Some people really really hate lycra, but we wear it for a reason.

However, I can't blame you if you are lycra-averse. It is tough to get over how ridiculous it is.

How about padded undershorts underneath whatever shorts you have laying around? I have a few, maybe $20 at most and I wear them under mesh.

Niiice, I like.

I have a pair of Hoss baggies I got for cheap that are alright. I prefer my Sugoi Ultimate II shorts with something over them. I have bad luck with poison ivy so I mostly wear pants and long sleeves on the trails. I have a couple pairs of cheap Fly 303 moto pants that work well for pedaling.

I've decided to spend money on good chamois and pair them with whatever for versatility.

Get spandex...it might sound gay but trust me, they are way more comfortable than the baggy ones and they have a lot more padding for your rear. and they look good when your in good shape

You didn't explain what style of riding you were doing - so depending on that - the shorts and their applications will be different.

For Cross Country and general mountain bike duties, my two favourites would be:

Fox High Frequency shorts - plenty of adjustemnt - comfy as hell chamois - stash pocket(s). I also think there is a model with a built in ipod pocket of listening to music on the trails is your thing.

NZO Dobies - so comfy if riding 'commando' is your thing in summer - or over tights in the cooler months. I love these shorts.

For Down Hill Duties, either TLD Moto Shorts or Royal Combat Shorts. Both are as tough as hell without sacrificing comfort in my opinion. I wear these under either.

Hope this helps.
