front gears

hey on my 08 gt cucker two i dont want to run any front gears on it. if i take off the front gears and run a single sprocket on the front will my chain come off easier when i jump, since there is no derailler on there. or wont it make a difference?

thanks

I don't think it would be much of a big deal, but there is definatley the possibility that the chain could come off. Many single 'front' sprocket bikes i see actually have left the front deraillure on (no cables connected) to help prevent it falling off.

The chain will fall off within the first 30 seconds of riding, and if it happens while you're standing, it won't be pretty. DAMHIKT.

If you're jumping the bike, put on a chainguide and be done with it.

No. Your thinking of a single speed. He wants to keep all his rear gears but only have one sproket at the front.

Again just leave your front deraillure on (disconnect all cables) if your worried about chain coming off. Just adjust the limit screws to get the deraillure in the right position, or buy a chain guard like above

yeah i want to get a chain guide but i dont have the money right now. i might just run one sprocket on the front and take off the cables and only keep the deraillure on.

As an option, some people use the middle ring with the big ring as the keeper/guide, and leave the front derailleur on.

I run a 1 by 8 on my xc bike and used the old big ring as a lightweight guard / guide... I machined off the teeth.
