Anyone involved with developing trails?

Hey guys, I just spoke with the county's Parks and Recreation representative about developing some trails around here.

The guy I spoke with is more of the Traffic-Ped coordinator, but is in charge of bike lanes and off-road multi-use lanes. So, he's put me in touch with the guy I need to deal with.

Anyways, a little history:

I live in Florida, Sarasota to be specific. If you don't know the area, the only elevation change we have is when you go over a bridge.

Anyways, a number of years ago the county closed down a landfill and relocated to another area. The old landfill would be good place to develope some singletrack trails and maybe even some bermed courses with some jumps for some 4x or dual type racing. I've never been involved with developing some trails or anything similar, but I've volunteered myself to do so!

Any help/advice would be great!

BTW, I'm firing off an email to IMBA about the possibilities as a first step.

I have done trail work but not yet gotten involved in the local politics of trail development. I have found the best way to get this done is to develope a strong group of supporters. our local bike club is one of the most active in TN and we are by far not the larger of the cities.

You shoudl check out www.sorba.org You are in an area where they can help you with many different things and all of the people I have met so far have been great.

Good Luck!

Moving forward, I'm trying to set up a meeting with the County and their Engineer.

Any other information is appreciated.
