snow tire questions
How loud are studded tires when they aren't in snow? If it depends on the tire, then which one would you recommend to someone who doesn't want to make a racket on spots where the snow has melted?
I currently have roadish tires on my MTB from the summer, but still a couple of inches of snow makes riding nearly impossible. Anyway, how much do these snow tires actually help? How deep is this snow you guys ride in with snow tires, and what is under it? |
From what I've seen, The snow tires work great on ice.
Id imagine you cant go in snow deeper than your pedals. |
typically snow tires dont mean you can trudge through 3 feet of snow. they work best on ice in my opinion, and small spots of snow. once you get about the 2 inch mark of snow, your tires begin to slip and slide

depth really depends on the snow. light fluff, probably 6" or more. heavy stuff, not as much.
they make noise, but not a ton. |
If you only are concerned with snow, get mud-specific tires and run them at low pressure. They won't be good on ice though.
