    Life Expentacy of MTB shoes.

    ''Topic''

The reason why am asking this is because I am about to buy some FORTE CM400 shoes, and both size 46 and 47 fit. they both feel the same so should i go for the higher size? I am taking in considerations that they do last a long time, since they are so stiff.

I would expect a good mtb shoe to last 3,000-6,000 miles. It all depends on how many miles you ride per week and what kind of riding you do. Pick the shoe size that fits the best with the type of socks you wear.

My Specialized Comp shoes have lasted about 8 months, time to replace, treads are ripping off, holes all over the place.

Most people choose quarter socks made from either polyester or wool. Cotton doesn't do so well. In fact, cotton is a really crappy sock material for ANY occasion.

My mtb shoes last 2, maybe three seasons before they either smell too bad or just suck. When they don't rate as mtb shoes anymore, I use them for warm weather commuting...

My Sidis from 2001 are still kicking, although the soles are getting a bit soft.

Skate-style shoes for platforms get chewed up much faster.

Once my kids' feet stop growing, their shoes last until they break. One has a pair that are about 4 years old. And there are people pedaling around on the other one's shoes which he generally wore for about 5 months before he outgrew them - that went on for a few years!! Fortunately for me, Sidi sales will be down this year!
As with mud, life, too, slides by.

Sidi's are worth the $ in the long run. My Sidi Bullet IIs still going strong after 3+ years and 10,000+ miles. I mostly use them offroad and in wet weather on the road. They are scuffed to hell, but the soles are still stiff, the velcro holds, they don't stink, and they show no sign of falling apart.

Good to here. I have a pair of Bullet IIs also but with only 600 about miles. Nice to know they still have a lot of life left.

My old Specialized bottom of the line shoes have lasted me since circa 1998. I think they lasted so long because they are so simple. Just velcro straps and hard plastic sole. They are falling apart in places, but relatively indestructible. They also cost me $25, so I would say I got my moneys worth. Time for an upgrade though...
