trek 800
I just recently found a older trek 800 cro-moly framed model at a yard sale for... haha $15 . Granted it needed a little work, I'll have to post pics when finished.. I'm replacing the chain all cables repainting the frame, replacing grips, bars, seat and a couple other minor things.. with spare parts lying around.. Anybody think of anything else to check seeing as how it was on this lady's front porch w/ a flat tire for who knows how long, I feel as though I got a pretty good deal though.

I would also recommend overhauling the headset and checking any other bearings. If you are going to repaint the frame, you will probably end up pulling the BB, too. Check inside the frame and make sure that you don't have any water or rust collected down at the bottom.
Oh yeah and give the wheels a good once over, but I am sure that is on the list.
I guess you will really know how good a deal it was when you are done.

From what I recall the Trek 800 uses the same frame as the base level Giant Boulder. If it does it's Hi-Ten with just a cro-mo seat tube, a little heavy but a pretty tough frame. Definitely a good buy.

errr everything has gone well so far; but I took it to the lbs yest. to get all the cables replaced(they were brittle and all) and they're gonna charge me 60 bucks... arrghhh oh well, otherwise all is well with the project so far.

Just buy the cables and housing and learn how to do it yourself!
Should only be about $25 for 2 brake, 2 shifter and housing, don't forget to get ferrules (metal caps at end of housing) and cable condomns (little aluminum caps you crimp on the end of the cable.).
