Magura Julie adapter to IS,
Hey,
I have a 2001 Specialied Enduro Fsr. On my front end of the bike, I have a 2001 Manitou Sx-Lt(100mm), with 2001 Magura Julie Disc Brakes.
I bought a 2003 Fox Vanilla R, and realized that the Julie caliper does not fit on the new fork because of the different spacing. The guys at the LBS told me I need an adapter. They have the Hayes adapter for either a 6" or 8" rotor.
I measured the rotor I currently have on now, and it is a 7 inch rotor. Here's my question. Should I buy a new 6 inch rotor with the Hayes adapter (Manitou post-mount to I.S. Standard) or should I get the adapter from Magura for the 7 inch adapter. Magura will charge me over $30 for the adapater. Will the Hayes adapter work with my Julie? It would cost me less to get the Hayes and a new 6 inch rotor.
Any Advice?
Thanks,
Josh

Why not get the Hayes and an 8" rotor?
I'm in a similar, yet different dilemma. I just upgrade my forks from a Rock Shox Psylo SL with QR20 to a Marzocchi Z1 FR QR20. I figured since they were both QR20, and both had I.S.O. disc mounts the adapter would be the same. NOPE! I'm currently using the adapter with a bunch of washers to utilize my 6" rotor, no one makes a Hayes adapter for the Marzocchi with a 6" rotor. They do for an 8" though.
So, it's either stay with my jerry rigged 6" or upgrade to the proper adapter and run an 8" disc.
IOW, I feel your pain brutha!

Josh,
I think you would be better off just spending the $30 and get the right adapter. If you go to a different rotor you'll probably need to replace your brake pads too. I added it up and you would be better off spending the $30, and keeping what you have.
Hayes Adapter about $8
6" Hayes Rotor $25
Brake Pads $10
Time spent changing everything over and breaking in new pads and rotor $ Priceless

Hayes Adapters for FOX Forx are shockingly expensive. Figure you'd spend close to 20, if not 30 bucks. The 8" adapter for my Manitou Sherman Slider was $20 bucks, and that's cost.
Hayes 6" rotors are running around 30 bucks
Pads (crappy ones) are about 10, good ones are around 20.
And for ALLLLL that money, you'd get a brake that doesn't perform as well (if at all, Magura rotors are narrower than Hayes rotors, so you would have a LOT of brake drag). The 165mm is going to be crappy for stopping compared to your 185mm rotor now.
Just get the Magura adaptor. Garanteed to work.
