Which bike should I get for £400-£500 ($800-$1,000) BEST BIKE!!
Hi There, as you can see this is my first post. I am looking to buy a bike for commuting to work (approx. 2 miles) and was wondering what was the best bike to get. There are two way in which I can do this; road and briddle path, so I think the bike would need to be a mountain bike. My budget is about £400-£500 max. I like the look of the following:

What manufacturer is the best?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

The majority of cycling I will be doing will be on the road, so maybe a hybrid be the best bike for me. Which hybrid is the best bike in my price range?

How well maintained are the bridle paths? When I was in the UK the paths were very well manicured (flat, packed, root and rock free). A road bike would be fine on those paths, a hybrid would be ideal. Recommend not going with a mountain bike if that's what you'll be riding. As for specific bikes, find a good local bike shop and see what they recommend for you. There are a LOT of good quality bikes out there from a lot of good brands. Any one of them may be perfect for you. Fit is more important than hardware.
I love Cannondale, don't get me wrong. Both of my bikes are C'dales. But I wouldn't say they are the best bike bar none. They're the best FOR ME, but they aren't the best outright. There is no such thing as "the best" really. Individual choice and all that.

Take a look here

Wiggle also stock kona bikes like Kona dew and various Gt and Giant bikes that would be suitable. You will be hard pressed to beat the Focus bikes though ( for the money). If you do a lot of road miles you may find a mountain bike hard work compared to a hybrid.
