    Questions

Ok, I have a few questions if a Mountain Bike is right for me..

One reason I ride my bike is for exercise.. Get into shape. I live about 15mins from a town. My neighborhood has creeks all throughout it. And I like riding next to the creeks. I could possibly even go in the creeks and plan on it. But I do right on the road to.. So I ride in the woods.. and on the road. Should I be looking into a mountain bike? Ive looked into bmx bikes, But im lost on what to look at getting.

    thanks

You should be fine with a mountain bike. You could always switch to slick tires if you find that you end up riding on the road most of the time. Just don't let the creek water rust your components...lol.

Nah theres only water in the creek when it rains. And then theres a walking/bike trail around a lake in my neighborhood to.. Its nothing special though. I have a bike right now. Its a MTB .. I dont really understand the speeds though. On the left you have 1-3.. and on the right handle you can select 1-7. Its a Schwinn. But recently i slammed on my back brake, and now the wheel wobbles when riding it.. I need to fix it but dont know how.,

    BMX or a single speed

I'd go BMX.. something with a rotor, and some hybrid tires. BMX bike will be much cheaper.

I guess it also depends on what kind of trails you have around there, if any, and if you wanna jump stuff and pull tricks or just go real fast.

I ride both BMX and mtn bikes, and both are fun, but you have to think about how you like to ride, and what kind of $ you got. A decent mtn bike is gonna run you at least $700 or more for something old. BMX, you can get something good for around $200 or so, used.

The other consideration is this: BMX riders like to take a shovel into some woods and build some jumps, maybe a track, or hang out in town and ride street; in other words, kinda hang around the same area, and use mostly man-made stuff to ride on. You can also have more fun screwing around in the driveway/parking lot with a BMX bike than you can with a mtn bike. Mtn bikers like to run trails mostly, or take drops, ride across logs, etc; nature-made stuff. XC is the most popular, which means your heading in the trail, and going on a bit of an excursion. You got a helmet on, hydro-pack, flat tire and tools kit, etc.
