Tubeless VS Tube
I bent my rims up and am looking to get a new set. 300 bucks is a nice price range as I'm still getting into the sport. I'm looking at a sun rhyno lite xt combo or the tubeless mavic x 3.1 UST. Whats advanatages and disadvantages.

I ride XC and downhill. (More XC when I'm in better shape). I weigh in at about 220. My bike is a stock 03 Fisher Tassajara. Wanted to upgrade brakes first but then I crashed, go figure.

The X3.1 UST rims will accept both tubeless and non tubeless tyres and you won't need a rim strip ever.
I use Stnas No tube system on my X3.1UST's and conventional tyres and it works very very well. light and almost 100% puncture proof.
Get the X3.1's, they're more versatile

I have the 3.1's on my single speed. So far, they've held up well. I run them tubeless, and really enjoy the low pressure I'm able to run this way.

Generally, a tubeless rim has a bit more "Heft" to it, so it's a bit stronger than a "tubed" rim. So, if you do a lot of XC the X3.1 is a good rim.
If you are HARD on your wheels, the RhinoLites are a good beefy rim.

I don't use tubeless but I've heard from friends that they are hard to pump up. You won't be able to use a mini-pump, and with a floor pump you have to pump really fast to get the bead to seal.

Yeah, you have to carry a CO2 inflator, but you can get a bunch of cartridges for cheap from Walmart, and the inflator itself costs less than most mini pumps, so that's not really an issue.
