29'r presta valve issue

Good morning:

I bought a new Fisher Paragon the other day. The presta valves seem pretty stubby on this bike and I had a hard time getting my Topeak floor pump to get a good grip on them. The valves seem very touchy as well. Has anyone else had this issue? Should I buy some type of valve extender for each wheel? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Boozer.

Some tubes come with longer valves. there are road tubes with really long valves made for aero rims, for example. They will be narrow, but rubber expands. Some will tell you this is a bad idea, however.

When running realyl large tires on my cross bike (effectively a 29er in that case) I have the same problem. Make sure you use the little ring that holds the valve against the rim. tightent hat up as much as you can and it will force the stem out a little more, which might be all you need.

buy tubes with longer valve stems and only tighten the lock ring finger tight otherwise you may rip the valve out of the tyre (at least I have )

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

There are also valve extenders. Pick your poison.

Try tightening up on the nut. Longer valve stems increase the risk that you will break one. If you're REALLY having problems, a better solution is probably a Presta to Shrader adapter. Just use the other side of the pump.

On edit ... I just considered if you have a non-threaded valve for your presta. These insidious little beasts do exist. In this case, I would buy a threaded valved tube so you can lock it onto the rim. For me, the nearly universal threaded stems are the best quality of a presta valve. You can only get threaded schrader stems in downhill tubes.
