Pcad hits the trail in search of Self Loathing

Yes, now that I have a new MTB, the Ti hard tail I always wanted, it's back into the woods for Pcad on a regular basis. A nice break from my Road Nazi hammering and racing, and a chance to commune with nature. But F all that bullsiht. There is no greater friggin font of Self Loathing and Humiliation than mountain biking. As bad as I suck at road cycling, my MTB suck factor is just over the top.

Looking forward to it, and to sharing my muddy observations here. First one: it would be a whole lot easier if they would pave those trails and install some drainage. It was muddy and slimey on that single track yesterday. It was fun of course, and nothing hones your bike handling skills like sliding and stumbling over single track and fire road. Hadn't been in the woods in some time, and Goosepond Mountain State Park (Chester, NY, my hometown) is like riding your MTB through the friggin Shire in Lord of the Rings. No orcs or hobbits however (unless you have the right hallucinogens, Pcad relies on endorphins alone).

mountain biking is about the fun, regardless of how badly you suck ...

Counter points - (oddly, you point out first point, but never state a second) - if they paved them they would be road bike trails, driving us further into the woods anyways. We want the challenge, the mud, and definitely no concrete ...

hey p'cad

which bike did you get again? a ti motobecane? how does the weld quality look on that? i think a ti hardtail would be great! i have a steel columbus right now. i would love to have a high end carbon and high end ti hardtail as well. but that will be a long ways away. i still need to finish my current bike and then do the guru geneo up.

Road cycling is for fun unless you're a pro, but try telling some of my Road Nazi team mates and acquaintances that. Then duck.

Yes, I got a Fly Ti, loving it so far. Only one ride in the woods, but I was very impressed. The welds? Boys, the frame is stunning. Looks like something that came out of Merlin or Litespeed. Rides like that too. All for $1900. I'm spending a couple of hundred upgrading this and that, but it's still a total no-brainer at any price south of $2500, even above that it would arguably be a bargain. Currently $2000-$2100 on BD's website.

Duck? Why? If you can't take a shot from some pansy ectomorph roadie you better take up crocheting or something.

Excellent point. You dirt boys sometimes reveal wisdom that belies your fuzzy legs. Must be the shrooms you eat out in the forest.

Wait until you get a rigid single speed. Talk about self loathing and humiliation! It made the local easy trail difficult! And to top it off, I not only feel it in my legs, but also my arms and lats! Of course, you'd probably want to stay off the rigid part to save your roadie arms from getting too big!
