Well I work for REI, and I get a hefty discount on them. I get discounts on other bikes at REI, but don't get as much of a discount. Anyways any opinions on them? Should I stay away from them? Im looking to get a bike at REI for under $500 w/ the discount MAXXX, of course the cheaper the better. I read the FAQ on top and told me to stay from, and told me Im better off w/o getting disc brakes if Im spending around $500 max or under

I've heard nothing bad about Novara. A co-worker rides one and loves the bike. Actually after about 7 years his frame broke at the chainstays and REI replaced the bike as the design had changed to the point where all the old parts wouldn't work on the new frame. For the record I believe he rides a Ponderosa. He has it set up more for road riding than off-road but does swap the tires when he does take it out in the woods.

Yea. Thats one thing I love about REI, is that they stand by their products 100% no matter how long. I always go to the gear garage, and always find tags on things that say "10 years old, no water proof anymore" "leg broke off" etc. We honestly accept any return

How much would the msrp of the bike be. You say 500 bucks, but we don't know what your employee discount is. I know a kid that worked at REI and got a 50% discount on Novara stuff, but he worked in one of their bike shops.

its 10% off sale items. ITs usually better for me to get it at MSRP, and get the discount.
I was looking at the Marin Bolinas Ridge for non brake disc, and the Novarra Aspen, and and the K2 ZED 2.0 brake disc bikes.

I've heard many good things about them. The people that have them are very happy and have not had any problems. Maybe you can pop over to your mechanics there and ask them?

ponderossa is on sale for 670 40% off = 402...which equals an awesome buy for the specs. If you can't swing the pnderossa, I would pay the extra money and get the Bonanza over the Aspen. I think you get much better equipment that will get you alot farther than the Aspen
