slicks on gary fisher

Hi all, I have a Gary Fisher Tarpon that currently has 26x1.95 tires on it, can someone tell me what's the narrowest tire I can safely put on that bike?

This would be for pavement riding.

Readeth the words of the bicycle prophet:

Long story short, it depends on the width of the rim, which should be marked on it somewhere. The page above uses metric, but you get the idea. In all likelihood, you should be able to get away with a 1.75, and you might get lucky with 1.5
