What Front Derailleur can i get?

Hey guys i need to buy a new Front Derailleur for my 2001 Trek 4500. But i am unsure which one to get.

I did some research and i am pretty sure i need a top pull, bottom swing. But when i look at all the current shimano products like the Deore XT model #FD-M771, it says top gear tooth 44T. I have a Bontrager sport 42 tooth top gear. Does that mean it wont work?

If it matters i have an 8 speed, with the front crank having a 42-32-22 teeth setup. Does the rear matter at all for getting a new FD?

Appreciate the help!!

Make sure you get the correct clamp size, too.
