A little help gauging value of used Stumpjumper?

    Howdy,

Any help anyone cares to give will be greatly appreciated. I'm looking at this bike but we don't feel confident in our value guesstimates. What's a fair price for both parties. Frame has <500 miles on it. Fairly exhaustive specs:

'97 Specialized Stumpjumper M2 ceramic composite/metal matrix (aluminum) hardtail
new RockShox Psylo XC front shock
    Spinergy Spox
Sram 9.0 SL grip shifters and rear derail
    Shimano Deore LX front derail
    Shimano Deore XT V-brakes
    Bontrager Crowbar handlebar
Koobi PRS saddle, split, manganese rails
    Avid SD-1.9L brake levers
    Specialized cranks
    Ritchey seatpost
    Sugino CSS III chain ring
    Shimano IG Narrow chain
    Sweetskinz Scorch reflective tires
    AheadSet
    Slime tubes
    Specialized stem
    sealed BB

Does that sound like about a thousand bucks' worth of bike?

    Thanks.

$1000 for an eleven year old bike?? I would think not, but I will wait for others that are more knowledgeable to comment.

Try $600 if you are lucky.

Edit: a seller would be lucky to get $500 for that, IMO.

A very lackluster parts spec. The Psylo was not the greatest of forks... Spox are sorta meh. Crappy tires.

If your budget is 500-1000 and you're looking to go used, you can find far better than that in that price range.

Yeah, for a thousand you can find a really nice lightly used(1-2yrs old) mountain bike. Big difference in technology between now and 1997. Just have a worker from a couple of each of your favorite local bike shops keep a lookout for some doctor that get a new bike every year or some guy that just never had time to get into the sport. There are a ton of really nice deals out there. Good luck.

A new Rockhopper for under a $1000 would have a better frame, better brakes, better derailers etc. No way I'd go a grand for that bike.
