    What would you do?

I ordered (and prepaid for) a NOS Jamis Dakota from a LBS on May 5th and was told it would be here on the 8th or 9th. Now it's the 24th and still no bike. Everytime I call, they tell me 1 to 3 days and are blaming it on the shipping companies, talking about "higher fuel prices". I've found a newer NOS of the same model elsewhere and am wondering if I should pull out of my current deal and go for it or not. I don't want to screw them over if they're really doing their best, but throughout this entire transaction, they've not called me back and just don't seem that interested in my business. Does it seem right to you that a store would not be able to get a bike within 20 days? What do you think I should do?

ps. I have to buy the other bike tomorrow if I'm going to.

F them. If they can't be bothered to let you know the bike is going to be 2-3 weeks late AND they give a poor excuse regarding fuel costs. Fuel costs mean that shipping will cost more not take longer.

2+ weeks past the original delivery date, no follow up to a customer and a lame ass excuse about fuel cost = a pull out for me. What happens if something goes wrong with the bike? Will it be repaired in a timely manner or will they drag the process out. Jump ship while you can.

Yeah, I'd do it. I hate it when you get poor service and then they disrespect you as well by never letting you know the deal. It's their fault. Just be damn good and sure you can get your money back.
They might claim that since it's "on it's way", you already bought it. However, you could probably fight that since it should have been in almost a month ago. But it's probably not worth all that hassle.

It's not the fact that the bike is late that's the problem. There could be any number of reasons (perhaps even valid reasons) for lateness, most of them beyond the control of the shop. The real problem is the shop's evasiveness and lack of interest. That portends future difficulties with them. Can you break the deal without financial penalty? If so, I think I'd do it. But...they already have your money, don't they? You might have as much trouble getting it back as you've had with getting your bike. Did you use a credit card to pay for it? The credit card company could help you with that.
