Need some new wheels

I'm looking for a new set of wheels that can be beat on harder than the Bontrager race wheels I have(28 spokes). Are these any good?- http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/176...c-Wheelset.htm
Or should I go for something different?
thanks

Perhaps, I'm crazy, but why do you want a wheelset that weighs 2.4 kilos w/o the cassette?

What would possibly warrant a FR wheelset if you're doing XC?

Cheeto 05-30-08 09:23 PM

those seem a little wide for XC

from what im told this is one of the best budget wheel sets

Im not really looking for an xc wheelset.. as you can see I already have one. I'm looking for a pair of wheels that I can beat on without them dying on me. stuff like dirtjumping, freeride I guess.

thanks again,

Out of those, I'd take the ones that cheeto posted.

Ive ridden on these too. I dont really like them. one of my friends had them and they never seemed to be that strong.

Just curious, how do you measure strength? Ability to stay true?

Dannihilator 06-01-08 08:32 PM

Were those wheels kept maintained?

My friend is a 240lb rider use to ride trials, 3 foot rock gaps and 5 foot drops are nothing uncommon for him. He also rides alot of rocks most stuff I and other riders walk over. He has a 99 stumpjumper for "xc" riding he has made about a dozen wheels look like tacos but he rode rhyno lites for the last 4 years on xt hubs and has not killed them yet.

dont know your budget, but assuming that its close to the price of the wheelset you have posted here. So here goes my suggestions (I don't know much about your situation, so my suggestions may be irrelevant for you).

Recently bought a wheelset from these guys and very happy with their overall quality and price. check these out.......listed in the order of my personal preference.

XM719 with XT (pricier, but worth it. this is actually my favorite rim)

Rhyno Lite (welded) and XT hub = one of the best low cost wheelset IMHO.

Sun SOS and XT hub = that white color is COOL.

Rhyno Lite XL and XT hub = heavy but very strong

Sun SOS and XT = a bit lighter version of SOS

also this one

Mavic 321 and XT = strong and affordable
