chain breakage
i bought my bike brand new on the 9th. went out riding today and the chain broke when i was climbing a nice hill. now its not like the bike sits in the garage i've put about 100 miles one it. i was wondering if anybody else has had a chain break so quickly. and what chains you would recomend that would stand up to my abuse.

What kind of riding, and it sounds more like improper assembly. Does it have a master-link, and where did the chain break at? At the ML, or a random place in the chain.

it was at a random sport on the chain. it looks like the pin came out of the link or maybe shered off. im leaning towards the former. the lbs i got it from said they would look at it and maybe replace it for free. i just need the time to get in. work is realy busy this next week.

sounds like a problem my son had one year - repeatedly! 4 chains later, someone told him he was "power shifting" which was causing the breakage. I'm not exactly sure what power shifting is, but it always happened going up hill - so - think about how you shift?

power shifting is probably refering to shifting under a heavy load, putting strong lateral forces on the chain, which can pop the pins out of the plates.
It really just sounds like a bad chain, to me.
