advice on Fox RP23

Looking to upgrade my old Fox Float rear shock to the RP23. Is there really a difference between the 08 and 09 models. Fox says the ProPedal is greatly improved. hype or not? And any thoughts on where to get it cheaper than the $380 list?

Thanks for any help
