2 Wheel drive MTN. Bike
Does anyone remeber the thread I posted about a website selling all wheel drive mountain bike's (2wd). They were still in there prototype stage, and were very intresting designs.
Well in this years Paris Dakar there was a number of motorbike using exactly the same type of 2 wheel drive, and early test's showed that the design has huge potential. Some of the prototypes even completed the race. So expect to see more motorbike's with this tech, and I would not be surprised if in the future it make's it onto road bike's and as it become's more refined it could hopefully make its way onto certain pedal bike's. I don't think it will ever replace conventional drive type's just be another type of bike to choose from.

christini makes the 2 wheel drive MTB. his 'shop' is right here in philadelphia. ive been there a few times. christini is a great guy, he has hooked up my friends and i with some good parts he had lying around. the last time i went his 2 wheel drive dirt bike prototype was nearly completed. he even offered to let us take one of the 2 wheel drive MTBs to wissahickon to try it out. we havent taken him up on that offer yet. maybe this spring i will!
in my opinion, next he needs to produce a 2 wheel drive single speed mountain bike! sweeeeet

2WD would be useful in snow and other conditions where your back tire might not grip as well as you'd like...Other than that, it would be too complex/heavy/expensive for my tastes.
To my understanding, Jeep also builds one.

Personally I don't think I need two drive wheels but that might just be me. Anything I can't climb it would probably be more efficient to run up anyway.

Haha on the neiman marcus website with the hummer bike:
• Weigh just 29 pounds.
And its not 2WD, its just foldable, I saw one at a car show a week ago.

You know, I think someone posted a link last year showing the hummer bike being advertised in conjunction with GM Hummers...for $2000. It must be hard to be both rich and gullable.
I would love to try out a 2-wheel drive bike, but I'm sure I don't need one. Evo, is the one you're referring to chain or shaft driven?

I could've sworn the Hummer was 2 wheel drive and shaft driven.
It was on tactical to practical on the discovery channel. He spunt he cranks while holding the bike and both wheels spun simultaneously.

There is an article I found, though. But, yeah, that Hummer bike may not be 2 wheel drive. I could've sworn it, though.

Yes the 2WD bike I have seen is shaft drive so are the prototype motorbike's at Paris Dakar this year.
One thing both time's I have posted this you always get some one who says "I don't need 2 wheel drive" and "I can't see any use for it" also the weight of the 2wd drive seems to put a lot of people off.
Well I don't see the point of big heavy DH bike's or really the point of rear suspension on "push" bike's full stop!
But no one can argue that Suspension has changed the way we ride and it has been no bad thing. My point is innovation is good it improve's the bike's we ride 2day, O.K 2wd may never pan out! But I personally think it will eventually but it will only become another type of bike among the many type's of bike's we have now!! Like ultra light XC whippets and ultra Heavy DownHill machines 2 very different type's of bike.

I never said somebody else couldn't use it. I could care less what anybody else rides. But I don't ride anything that would really merit having a 2wd bike.
