Hello people,
Early this year bought my first mtn bike, a hardtail 29er, the Gary Fisher Cobia. I'm loving the trails! But, this bike is... a sled. As in 'Lead Sled'.
I'm lusting for better overall performance, especially in acceleration and sustained speed. Is this possible with a custom 9er, like a carbon Curtlo? Or, any mtn bike, for that matter?

There are quite a few light 29ers.
this guy at my local trail rides one that is light as crap, but, I'd have to check on the name for you.
But if its so heavy, instead of buying a new bike maybe you could upgrade things.
like stem/seatpost/seat/bars/wheels and tires all help to save weight.

29ers can be had in some pretty light configs, check your components and see what fits in your budget. i bet your wheels are super heavy..

yes, the wheels are like tank wheels. I would ok with spending the bucks to get a responsive and quick 9er. A carbon Curtlo is ~$2700. I just don't have the experience to know whether this would fill the bill.

Pinkrobe, HA!.. you correctly guessed my dilemma! The trails are so fun, I want to stick with that. But, the bike has got to do better. Does anyone have experience with Curtlo? A friend of mine suggested a carbon job from them.

My Vassago Jabberwocky comes in at 23.5 lb. Not sure what your definition of light is but that's not bad to me. It's also got a fairly beefy wheelset and huge tires. Not the lightest build. I've seen some of the Jabber's at under 20 lbs. Vassago also makes an Optimus Ti, basically a titanium jabber that's about a pound or two lighter than the steel frame.
