I rode the weirdest/sweetest mtb bike ever today

On our little monthly club ride

The mtb bike at the bottom
Handmade carbon frame 29'er (the owner and his brother used to have a small scale carbon frame business)
MTB drop bars right side had a 9speed STI shifter with the brake line running to the front brake, the left side had a triple bar end shifter with the brake going to the rear
rear hydraulic cantilever brakes
some weird dropout deal that the guy did to accommodate the rear wheel

You in Texas? Is the guy who lent it to you named Alex or Hawke?

Nine Mile Falls...

I live over on the Wet Side on Fidalgo Island.

I was looking up the bike trail that runs down the Spokane River from there. How is it?

Too close to Spokane to be Outermost <g>. Try Republic. One summer it was happening. Next summer it was dead. What happened?

For real Outermost, Google Earth on Ft. Bidwell, CA - the remotest corner of the state. Nearest WalMart is Susanville.

Well the photo hardly does the bike justice, but seems like it is a nice ride. I am planning on getting a similar custom build this fall, steel though, no carbon.

Lotta trails running on bothe sides of the river; all pretty fun, especially the one that goes through 'Little Vietnam.'

Nine Mile may not be outermost; but the "greater Tum Tum area" where I live is near the edge .

I've rolled through Susanville many times - - still have bad memories of that route because that's where the death-rattle started in my old VW Bug that left me starnded for a week in Redding - - armpit of the world.

A. does some amazing work - - and all self-taught from what I gather. Kind of the next progression from their years of background in fiberglas.

@@@

Ft. Benning is the Armpit. Of course, some say Ft. Polk, etc. Each have their fans. Who knows how long the debate has raged.

Redding in summer = brain fry. You can have my share. However, I just downloaded data on bike trails up to Shasta Dam - got some options there. Just start riding at 0400.
