types of cliping pedals
i have been reading and have a understanding of clipless pedals, are there other names for pedals that clip . what other types of cliping pedals are there, so i can research them.
plus, can you pedal without clipping in, sometimes i ride with my 4 yr old and he has a bike seat. when i put my foot were it should be, the back of my foot hits the bike seat. also what is the benifits of more expensive ones, i know the titanium are alot lighter, but do they spin easier? shimano PD-M520 is this a good one? fyi i am looking at more touring rather than offroad, metroparks, light gravel,, i have a gary fisher marlin that is 11 years old about and in need of updating. but i do not want to break the bank yet, i have two young children with me so spped is not important, just nice easy pedaling. dan |
Time ATAC
Crank Brothers Eggbeaters Shimano M-something... Based on what you are going to be doing, though, I think clipless is a waste of money. |
The M520s are great pedals.
You can also get toe clips, which might be right for you. You can ride in gym shoes with them. http://z.about.com/d/bicycling/1/5/N...pedalclips.jpg |

clip pedals, pedals that can be fitted with a toe clip, are referred to as touring pedals, quill type pedals, track pedals, platform pedals (but not all of these are toe clip compatible.) and more names that I am not familiar with.
the Shimano m-520s are a fine pedal, but if you are looking to ride easily without clipping in then you may want to try something along the lines of wide platform pedal. I know this was big in DH mtb and BMX for a while, but I do not see them around as much anymore. Some companies make pedals that are clipless on one side and platform on the other. They should be fine if you are not looking to clip into your pedals quickly. |
