    Some Trek 4300 questions

Howdy. I'm about to trade my Xbox 360 for a 2009 Trek 4300. I already have a 7.3 FX as my daily commuter/road bike. I want something for some off-road work, and I think this is a great deal. It's an 18" frame and I'm 5'10", so that seems reasonable. I'll get the chance to ride it tomorrow and make sure it's comfy. It's got less than 100 miles on it.

Here's my question. This is not the disc brake version. If I opt to add disc brakes later will I need to change out the rims on this? Or will I just need the disc brakes since there is a disc version of this bike?

Anything about the '09 4300 I should know? I absolutely adore my 7.3 FX and I'm not getting much use out of my 360. Thoughts?

Wow, how sweet a deal is that. The 4300 will give you back more for years to come vs. the 360 so you are in a win-win situation. No you won't have to change rims and can switch to disc brakes but may not need them depending where you ride. The disc brakes mechanical on the 4300 so you will be able to upgrade to anything you want and hydraulics. Go get it and enjoy the chance to get off the couch and carve up some trails.

the 4300 i have for my kid is the rim brake version, and the wheels will not accept disc rotors ... the rear of the frame has the mounting spots IIRC .. but the front fork does not ...

but it is an 07 version ...

you will just need to look it over to see if it will accept them, if the frame has the mounting tabs .. then the rest can be changed out eventually.

I think the non disc has the disc brake mounting tabs, check and see.

The version that doesn't come with disks has disk mounts.
The wheels might need to be changed however.

^^^ this is true. the 08s have mounts for the calipers but the hubs wont accept disks you'll have to change them. this is on the 08 mind you, I havent seen an 09 yet but trek usually dosent but disk hubs on the rim brake verson.

We consummated the trade. The bike's great. I did about 75 miles on it yesterday (from Cuyahoga Falls to downtown Cleveland on the canal towpath). Great ride.
