Oooops!

So I was JRA about a year ago and I see a bike in the trash. I thought "Wow...who would throw away such a decent bike?" I kept on going. Later that day, I was driving past the same area and it was still there. I pulled it out and took it home. I gave it a tune-up and by golly it was like new again. Prob mid-to-late 90's Trek 730 that didn't look like it had over 200 miles on it.

I gave it to a friend of mine who needed a bike. Needless to say...she was very grateful.

So I was JRA today and went past that same house. There was a guy on the porch dressed in scrubs with a bike sitting on his sidewalk that was too big for him. I started to have a sinking feeling in my gullet. I went up to his porch and intro'd myself and found out that we work at the same 'spital. I asked him if he had thrown a bike away about a year ago and he said "Well actually, I went to the store on it and when I got home...I wrecked it. I left it out by the trash while I got myself fixed up. I forgot that I left it there and when I remembered to go back and get it..."

Oh Crap!!

I told him that I owe him some $$$ for a bike and he said that I didn't have to do that. I told him that I was gonna try to get his bike back for him though. He said "Well...now that would be really nice!"

So now I have my work cut out for me.

I'm dumb.

I have a healthy conscience. Once that sinking feeling hits...no matter the reason...it's there until it's dealt with.

Who knew I'd become who I hate most? BIKE THIEVES!!!!

Taking a bike out of the trash does not the thief make. Fair play to you for fessin' up but if he placed it next to or in a bin....

You should be proud of yourself for trying to get it back, not many people these days would.

Kinda funny though, right?
