It was on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). I turned in at around the 1.5 hour mark. Why were there so many people abandoning? Was it the heat?

I noticed all the men have that nice long lean muscle and the women are more bulked up looking like men.

Saw it live on Radio-Canada / CBC yesterday, I'm a little sad for Marie-Hélène Prémont. It was interesting to watch.

i saw it live too. what happened to her? she was supposed to pwn for Canada, but pussied out? it wasn't a mechanical issue, and she wasn't hurt to the point where she couldn't carry herself and the bike back down the mountain.

i tuned out after the other canadian got fourth. the german power pwned the rest good job for her!

maybe i'm sounding a little harsh; maybe something bad did happen to her - i don't know what, though.

wasn't that hot. it was 27C with 40 - 50% humidity.

From what I have heard, she hyperventilated and could not bring her breathing and heartbeat back to normal. I suspect it is because of the heat. The temperature rose to around 30C I think.

You can still watch streaming video of both the men's and women's events here.

Most of our trails are more technical and involve more climbing. I wouldn't want to do that course on a singlespeed, but a rigid bike would probably be fine. The switchback climb didn't seem to have any roots or rocks in it, which is somewhat unusual.

Surely you don't mean the Olympic course was technical.

Did you folks see the collage on womens MTB crashes? I hope they weren't hurt too badly. One bike looked like it had a bent rear wheel but the crash did not appear too bad. She also had a tough time getting back up. The other crash that looked really scary was the endo. It looked like her front wheel locked up and she then went over. I was looking for updates on them but didn't see any. Hope they are a-ok.
