August 24 spectacular wreck

well, I went out sunday with one of my teammates. He was leading and I was trying to stay with the young buck. I still don't know how it happeneded other than hitting something at 20mph and caused an endo. Cuts on my face, left arm, right elbow and went...ok....nothing broken.. I looked down and my right middle finger was shorter and pointing funny. I thought...dang...it is broken. I looked closer and it was dislocated. I grabbed it. Popped it back in place and kept going. Caught the other rider and 20miles later...the ride was done.

I got in the car. Went to the local pharmacy and bought an icepack and tape.

Damn man, beating the "young buck" meant a lot to you didn't it? I remember a motocross rider back in the early 80's Danny "magoo" Chandler, that had that win or die attitude. Great to watch him race cause he usually would get out of control and crash trying to get to the front. I think he broke his neck and retired, but he will always be a legend to me.

I did end up passing him.....

Hey, at least the bike didn't get scratched. I broke the fall for it!

It's hard to accept:

1 you aren't young anymore
2 you aren't indestructable anymore

the last "spectacular wreck" involved a Ti plate.

I guess I'll take a couple of days off and road ride.

Similar thing happened to me last Friday.

My riding bud (ricky) was trying to keep up with me on the DH sections and ran smack into a tree. It's not enough that he kills me on the climbs...he has to try to take away my only edge on him.

That'll teach him!!

And that reminds me too of Dave Aldana - - AMA Grand National flat track racer in the 70s. When he didn't crash big, he'd win big. He had one of the most storied rookie seasons as an AMA Expert Pro, If you watch On Any Sunday, there are a few good snippets of him that typify his style.

Sounds like one of the guys I ride road with. Kills me on the climbs, leaving me no opportunity but to be reckless on the downhill side of things. Thankfully the 10-15 lbs. I have on him rarely let me down on when gravity is on my side.
