getting recurrent after long layoff

I was very active in road biking years ago but got sidetracked into skydiving for the last 15 yrs. getting back into biking and have a used cannondale and cadex mountain and road bike respectively. Used to use toe clips but now getting into clipless. Have a pair of Pearl Izumi shoes with two cleat spds. The cadex road bike has look style pedals. Is there anyway I can attach the look style cleats to the shoes I have or are the shoes absolutely specific to the pedal style?

It should be obvious if your shoes can handle the larger, three-bolt LOOK-style cleat. If the shoes have a recessed cleat area, then it is "MTB"-specific (2-hole). Generally speaking, "road" shoes can be used with either; "MTB" shoes are for "MTB" only.

Funny, I use my MTB shoe for road riding all the time. Did you maybe mean to say that the other way around? My road shoes stood up to about 2 weeks of MTBing (I used SPDs on my road bike before I used them on my MTB so I only had road shoes). I only own MTB shoes and they work fine for road riding.

True a lot of road riders use mtb shoes (including myself) one reason being mtb shoes with recessed cleats are more "walkable".

However LOOK are a road pedal system ( and to my knowledge and dont do a mtb pedal system) which require a 3 bolt patern. All mtb pedal/shoes are 2 bolt pattern so LOOKS cleats wont fit onto mtb shoes
