Bontrager Rhythm 29er w/ Cross tires?

Has anyone had any experience putting cross tires on the Bontrager Rhythm wheelset? I am a little concerned about running narrow cross tires on the wide (28mm) rim. I probably could run a 40 or 45mm tire, but those are getting kind of large and are tougher to find.

I think that you can run a narrow cross tire (30-35m) on the rhythm wheelset but I'm worried about them "flattening out" due to the wide rim. Let me know your experience or input.

If it was a 35c tire you should be okay- if you think about it, most road rims are 18-19c and run 23c tires. It'll be close, though.
