Hello

Well this is my first topic and post so just wanted to say hello to all the other bikers. i ride a lot, trails through the woods ive made myself and a few that lead down to the river. right now im riding a Schwinn Sierra with no suspension except the seat post which i guess aint really suspension and it has v-brakes. i need a little help on what to get. im pretty new to the whole fancy bikes i just ride dont care what but ive finally decided to get me a nice one. I need one with good brakes cause my brakes aint really got enough stoppin power. i would like for it to have suspension but its not really needed, i like it rough, and if this dont make sense just tell me cause im half asleep.

ok ive did a little searchin now ive found a bike shop close to where i live that carries trek i will probly go check them out in a few days. Im a real aggressive rider so which is best a hardtail or full suspension, it dont really matter cause i cant afford a decent full suspension but which is best

Oh you've just GOT to tell me how to pronounce your username.

But yeah maybe you can get an entry level Trek for starters.

No, you don't "need" anything fancy to ride. I just wear regular ole tennis shoes. However you will have more power behind each stroke with pedal clips or even more with clipless pedals/shoes. I never cared for clips at all and haven't gotten to the point in my riding where I would need clipless but it's something to consider down the line.

i guess i just dont really see the point in gettin shoes just for riding a bike, im gonna try to get up some pics of my favorite trail tommorow so far ive not seen any on here thats to much like it. im kinda thinkin bout just keepin the schwinn till it completely breaks on me. ive never really seen a bike break except chain and stuff. i really actually dont see the point in gettin a expensive bike. to me most have rode the same, but some better than others. ive rode the next bikes, mongoose, and schwinn bikes, schwinn was the best but their not really that different except the next bikes are really poor quality. i may see it different if i ride a good bike but to me most of them ride the same.

well somebodys a little cranky. i just see this kinda like airsoft and buying a gun, just cause you pour thousands into a gun doesnt mean that makes you any better of a player. like just cause you buy an expensive bike it doesnt make you a good rider it just shows youve got money youve got to waste on your hobbies. i mean im not sayin theres nothin wrong with havin an expensive bike im just sayin whats the point of havin one. i mean i was lookin at some pictures and most of those bikes didnt look like they had ever been rode, but they looked like someone poured a ****load of money into them. And another thing the schwinn rides quite nice for your information, have u ever rode one

OH OKAY I see your name now!! (I'm old, forgive me).

You do need a helmet though. That would be the first thing to get. Shoes you can deal with later as you increase your riding skills and find out what you would need in shoe. Your shoes might slip on the pedals depending upon what type are on the bike.

Good luck on getting a bike! And when you do, please post pics, okay?

You are correct, the bike doesn't make the biker. But a ****ty bike is a ****ty bike. Schwinn used to make some decent rides. If you are comparing yours to a Next or Mongoose, though, I doubt you are riding anything that great.

I wasnt really comparing the schwinn to the next cause it wins hands down cause the next is ****. im just sayin on the actual riding(or the riding you get before the crank breaks) is about the same. The only real difference is the pedaling but the schwinn i have is 21 speed and the next was a 18 but now its a six and the chain dont stay on very well. i mean do these expensive bikes really ride that much better than the one i already have. BTW the schwinn i have is old, and gettin worn out thats really the only reason i was seein about gettin a decent bike like a trek. The only bad thing about my schwinn is it has the stupidest handbar system ever, its kind of like shocks for the handlebars, ill post a pic if you dont know what im talkin about.

yeah ive just been lately havin problems with it though, that fancy shock thing want to come loose all the time, and some of the teeth on certain gears are worn down so much that when you pedal it will skip it which makes it pop, mainly talkin about the 7th gear. It really rides pretty nice though. i got a question though is there a good air pressure to ride off road with cause ive been runnin at about 35 and now i put it at about 45, after i aired it up the 45 all i did was ride it home on the road so i still aint went off road with it. or is airpressure just one of those things thats acourdin to how you like it

A decent quill stem should solve the stem issue, those suspension stems are deathtraps anyways, Sounds like you need a new crankset, chain and freewheel. 35-45 is a good pressure range to be in.

May I ask you a favor please? Please try to use proper punctuation, we have spell check when you post here. It's hard to read and understand. It would help us give you the proper answers, okay? Thanks.

And no going around the cuss filters. *goes back to fix cuss words*

and sorry to Sui Blue Wind ill try to keep good grammer skills, and sorry about the whole goin around the cuss filters ive been on airsoft sites that it is acceptable( or the mods dont get on to you for it)

Thank you Gamer.

If you DO decide to ditch the old Schwinn and go for new, the Trek might be the bike for you. Go and give it a test ride and see how you like it. I bet you will see a world of difference! Plus, if you get it from a bike shop, they usually will give you minor adjustments for the first year or so.
