One of the places I ride, I average around 10mph or 8 depending who I'm riding with and/or what stunts I hit (around 12mph for race pace). Fairly flat, but its around 9 miles of trail packed into a very small area, so its all curvy with almost no straight away. The other place has about 9 miles of trail that I average between 6 and 9mph on (I have never pushed really hard on it and the way it is set up right now, there is no way to do a race because of only one entrance/exit). If the other place is curvy, this place is even more so only it has no straight aways and is all up and down. My personal worst was on a trip out west I averaged around 4mph (going from 100 feet or so above sea level to 9000 feet kinda gets you, but after about a week I increased that).

Edit: The winner of the expert men category averaged a high 13mph over a 3 race series on the trail that I can get low 12mph.

8ish or so, but the trails around here are really pretty technical. One set of trails not too far I can average 15ish without trying too hard.

EDIT: and your math doesn't work. 250-300 miles a week for 25 hours would be 10-12 mph.

I don't honestly think that these numbers mean anything because most of our trails are extremely different.

Yeah, average speed on trails of 15-20mph? I call BS unless your trails are baby ass non-technical smooth fests. Or paved.

how long and where do you avg. 20mph on a trail? Does this mean you can do sub 2.5 hour 50 mile rides on your mountain bike. Do you climb?

15-20 mph average. 100% shenanigans.

Most of the trails in my hood are completed at 10 km/h average. Put a racer on the course and they do it in 12-13 average. 15-20 mph is what we get on our road rides [hills and headwinds FTW].

Yep your just average I clock 42 mph averages for 1 hour free ride sessions, in my local skate park. Which, by the way has an elevation change of over 10k feet

If by XC trails you mean really bumpy road or gentle fire roads, than maybe yes. If not, you defiantly need a new computer for your bike. Or you need to stop while you are ahead.

Uh, yeah. I still call BS. Max of 45mph on a trail is mach ********.

I've been at speeds in the 40-50 mph range on my road bike. Getting those speeds on a mtb, on a real trail, not some groomed path or pavement? Yeah, right, not unless you're a pro DH rider. And that fast for even them is mach stupid.

Climbing speed of ~20 km/h. Max speed of 45 mph is [gets out slide rule] 72 km/h. Again, 100% shenanigans unless you're shuttling and your mountain bike has slicks and a fairing. Further, your coach is a pro track racer? Well, that makes perfect sense, 'cause the guys winning the omnium are always kicking my ass on singletrack. I'm always thinking, "Damn, that guy in the skinsuit with no water on a fixie sure can handle the left-hand turns".
