Short fork
I have the opportunity to get a great deal on a XC fork. Problem is that the steer tube is a bit short, it only goes a little more than halfway through the stem. The cap of the headset will screw in, and the stem will grip the steer tube but my question is can I use it this way? I will not do any hard-core rough stuff on it. Can the steer tube be replaced? Thanks

ditto, too much risk! If it were 3/4 of the way and used only for XC, I'd consider it, but 1/2 is not enough for the stem to get a good purchase on the steerer tube!
