K2 Zed Sport for $193?? Deal??

Hello,

I have recently gotten back into cycling. I just ordered a road bike and have been using it to get exercise. I was debating on whether to get a road bike or a mountain bike, but decided on the road bike because there aren't too many trails around here for off-road riding.

I then put a couple of those bike lifts (pulley systems) in my garage ceiling and realized that I had room for one more bike

I decided to look for an inexpensive mountain bike to have for fun. I read a lot of reviews on the Forge Sawback 5xx, but tried a friends and the 19.5" frame was too small. I then saw a K2 Zed 2.0 bike at a LBS and road it around (XL Frame) and really liked it.

I did some searches on-line and found the K2 Zed Sport (lowest model) at performancebike.com. It was $249, which seems like a great deal. I have been waiting for a 15% off coupon.

I woke up this morning and decided to check their site. They just reduced the price on the K2 Zed Sport bikes to $214. I used promo code "428" and got another 10% off, plus 10% in rewards points (Team Performance).

So that means I got the K2 Zed Sport bike for $193. I'm still in shock. I know that this bike will be extremely entry level, but you can barely get a Wal-Mart bike for under $200.

I can't find too much info on K2 bikes, but I have to believe they are decent for the price. Does anyone have a K2 Zed? Is this thing going to be worth $193?

I had a ZED 1.0 04 model. They are as good as any other entry level bike.

I didn't have time to expand on this yesterday, I loved the frame on the bike enough, that I did a complete rebuild of it. All X9 Drive, Race face bars, cranks, rings, an BB. Funn Serial killa stem. Some 2.3 Kenda Krushers that I picked up off E-bay. And a 120 MM Manipoo fork. Also picked up off the "bay", along with a set of deore hydros.

I used it as an agressive XC bike. At that time they hadn't dumbed down my local trails yet and there was a section of strait downhill, that had a few dirt jumps, hucks actually. maybe a foot tall but with speed you could huck out 6 feet. (I suspect Chelboed of building these) They were a blast to hit. Anyways back to the zed.

I think the sport and the 1.0 have the same frames. then the 2.0 and up use a slightly different frame. I had no issues with the frame at all. The components were equal to any entry level bike in the same price category. I normally suggest someone spend a little more if they can and get the best bike they can afford.
OK I'm done rambling

Thanks that's great feedback. It comes in tomorrow, so I'll be testing it soon. Sounds like the frame is decent (enough for me). I'll just upgrade the components as they wear out or break. I don't ride very hard, so I'm sure this will be perfect for me. I was mainly just concerned with the $193 price. Seems too good to be true. We shall see...
