    Buying second hand?

I'm on a bit of a budget, its not so much that I hav'nt got the money its just I don't think its justified for me to pay 1000's on a bike at my skill level or for the amount of riding I will use it for.
So I'm think of buying some second hand bit's and would like some advice on what to look out for!

Firstly I may buy a complete second hand bike, I was hoping to find something not to old say 2000 onwards, I'm after a FS trail bike with between 4-6" of travel (or both like a Spesh Enduro). What should I look out for? I will probably buy from either the classified ads in bike mags, or possibly maybe even Ebay although I ain't an Ebay fan.

Secondly I could buy a frame and fork speperatly or together second hand. I'm also looking in sale ad's

With forks and frame's is there much to worry about buying second hand? I was hoping to get something like a Fox fork or decent Marzocchi fork like there Z1 freeride type forks.

Trying to find a complete second hand bike is hard, as I like the new 04 bike best as the kit is often better on newer bike's!

Bike's I've been looking at new are Marin Wolf ridge, Kona Coiler or Dawg, Spesh Enduro or Stumphumper, and Orange Five not Sub 5! all these bike's cost around 1500-1600 you can pay more for a better spec!

But I was hoping to get one of those bike's for around 800-1000 preferably.

I've been pretty fortunate when buying things off of eBay. I have yet to get burned. I do avoid ads, where I find gross discrepancies and the seller doesn't know what he's talking about.

I also ask specific questions and save those e-mails. If the frame or fork arrives and it's contrary to what I specifically asked about then I've got a legitimate claim.

I also ask for detailed close ups if they say there is a scratch or a gouge. I ask for as much info as possible.
