Transporting bikes
What is the best method for carrying 3 mtn bikes in the back of a pickup truck bed? Also is there away to carrying the bikes without having to disconnect front brakes? Thanks for any help.

I use try straps on the front fork... I'll try and dig up a photo here....
Darn, I can't find one. But anyway, I loop the try down through the fork, then attach low on the box of the truck... exactly the same as how you tie down a motorbike. It works perfect and I've never had a problem, even when off-roading. When you tie it down, compress the fork about 5cm or so... just to make sure everything is snug. Tie down the rear wheel anyway you want, and you're set!

On Nashbar, they have things that look like docking cleats on a boat, but have a quick release skewer. I have one mounted directly to the bed of my truck. It holds it so well, you don't even need to tie down the rear.

I have those too in my truck for my XC bikes.. I have the Swagman's from MEC. However, you have to disconnect your front brake to make them work.

I just use fork mounts. You gotta take the front wheel off, but it only takes a second to put back on.

You can put some kind of padding over the back of the tray and pout the bikes in the tray with the forks over the back or you can weld up a square frame that sits in the tray and has a square upright bit that is at the back. You can then put the forks over that and tie them down

I made a rack out of PVC pipe and a WHOLE bunch of fittings. I just drop one of my wheels into the rack and I'm OFF!
Wasn't cheap, but it works well.

I'll see what I can come up with. It's not pretty, but it works very well!

bungie cords all the way or on 100mile+ trips i turn mine upside down and tie the snot out of them with parachute cord and have room in between for enough luggage for me and my 4 kids(3 females too!wife,2 daughters)when 3 or less bikes i just criss cross the bungie cords so they work against each other so the paint wont scratch on the girls bikes.an x of sorts going from left side of truck to right side of right bike front and back.they do not even sway when going over bumps slowly while in a corner like a pothole or speed bump
