First Flat Tire On The Trail

I had my first "up a mountain without a pump" episode. I wrote about it here:

https://martytime.com/stuff/?p=225

I guess I'll go back to slime??

This is why you carry a couple of spare tubes and remember to bring a pump/co2 inflator. Slime is evil.

Do you use a camelbak? If so, just carry a couple tubes and a mini pump as Dannihilator suggests, as well as some tire levers and a mini tool kit for field repairs(mine has an allen wrench assortment, a multi spoke wrench, a chain tool, a short length of chain, and a piece of Mr. Tuffy for tire tears). It may seem like a lot of stuff, but if you're ten miles from the trailhead it beats walking.

Slime tubes are fun to blow up.

Instead of adding a ton of weight to your wheels with stuff you don't need, get a pump, an extra tube or two and a patch kit.

I use a Topeak Morph pump, I carry two tubes and a patch kit. Being prepared is the best answer.

Yeah, I use the Morph mountain. It works great.

+1 for pumps and tubes. Suggest double sided cartridge and hand pump.

If the gear is too heavy, lay off the twinkies, fatty.

No flats here yet.... for those you who carry CO2s, how many 16gram cartridge does it take to fill, say a 26 x 2.0 at 40psi tube/tire? And how about using a Tuffy liner? Thank you.

Tuffy Liners are the biggest scam going. They create more flats than they protect.

+1- I can't tell you how many flats I've fixed in the shop that were caused by Tuffy liners. Fortunately, removing them gives me a great source for tire boots. I just cut off a 3" section and carry it in my field repair kit in case I get a rip in my tire- instead of using a dollar bill or a powerbar wrapper.

Congrats, you inspired me to finally get a spare tube and a tire lever to carry with me. Now if only my tailbone would heal up so I can go ride again...

Just one my friend, just one. I wouldn't count on one cartridge filling two though...if you're that unlucky.

You could probably do with just a patch kit levers. I haven't had a flat yet that couldn't be patched on the trail...but I've also never had a hold near the valve on the trail.

Now I'm screwed tomorrow...maybe I'll ride with a tube.
