Is it just me..........?
When I "lock down" the ETA om my fork is seems the bike gets harder to pedal. It was the same thing on the Bullit. If I pedal along with the fork compressed and I flip the ETA lever to release the fork it seems like the bike frees up and pedals easier. I have a friend(Hillbilly Dave) who has one of the first Z150s on his Bullit and he told me the same thing. Am I losing my mind?

I locked out my fork for one of the first times ever, and it felt really odd. But I think it probably was more efficient.

when i had an eta fork, the same feeling would happen. heard similar from a few other riders, and there are even a few threads on mtbr about the phenomenon.
methinks from altering the head angle/changing your weight distribution on the bike/the fork not being as reactive with only that little bit of travel when eta is in use.

May depend on how you ride too. When I had my XC rig with a Tora...I'd lock it out and stand up and "honk" the whole way up the hill. It was really efficient. When I sat down and spun smooth circles...I preferred it to be free floating.

one less horse
That's likely but totally unrelated.
I seldom if ever use eta because I know exactly what you're talking about. I suspect it's the seat angle change, and as scrub said, weight distribution, that takes you out of the suspension's pedaling sweet spot. It's not as nearly as bad on a hardtail IME.

I guess I could have left out the "losing my mind" part.

It's the reltaionship of your wheel's compass-cnter to the ETA cartridge's instant-center. The two set up a severe-but-unfelt harmonic diresonance that actually slows your front wheel down as if the brake is dragging.

ETA is not a lockout,it reduces travel.

It is more probable that your old man legs just don't pedal the way they used to.

Only done one ride on my 05 Z1 with ETA but I noticed that it lowers the fork a little which, at least for me, helped to keep my front end from lifting up as a peddled in granny gear. Did help prevent dive also when I got out of the saddle when climbing in my middle ring.
